Kyle Carpenter’s Fisher House Story
Lance Cpl. William "Kyle" Carpenter was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Obama on June 19, 2014 for his heroic actions during a combat mission in Afghanistan in November 2010.
Kyle and another Marine were in a firefight with Taliban insurgents when a hand grenade landed nearby.
Kyle rushed toward the grenade and his body took most of the blast.
“Corporal William Kyle Carpenter should not be alive today,” Mr. Obama said during the ceremony. “But we are here because this man, this United States Marine, faced down that terrible explosive power, that unforgiving force, with his own body — willingly and deliberately — to protect a fellow Marine.”
While Kyle endured more than 40 surgeries over the course of two and a half years at specialized military and VA medical centers far from home, his family stayed at a Fisher House.
In the words of Kyle’s mother and primary caretaker:
We appreciate every donor and every dollar that was given that gave us the opportunity to have somewhere to stay so we could be there with Kyle while he was recovering.
Your donation to Fisher House today will directly impact the lives of military families like the Carpenters – enabling them to be together at their greatest time of need.
