One Mile for Love, founded by Jiayi Bu, is an organization that raises awareness for the families of ill, injured and wounded service members. As students at leading universities, we harness the energy of the youth by involving them in walking one mile for love, to demonstrate that very small acts of giving, can have a substantial impact in inspiring Love and how we care for each other as a society.
We are firmly rooted in the belief that acts of Good, whether small or large, have a transformative effect on society. We raise awareness and funds for Fisher House Foundation, an A+ rated charity (http://fisherhouse.org) that provides lodging for the families of wounded, ill and injured service members while their loved ones are being treated.
Around October 17 (TBD) at Kogan Plaza, we will walk one mile for love to Washington Monument!!
Message from Jiayi Bu:
Dear friends and students, this July I have the pleasure to bring 1MILE4LOVE to attend the Warrior Games which held in Chicago. When I stood together with families of wounded soldiers who attend the game, when I saw children happily holding 1MILE’s balloons, I felt very inspired and encouraged.
I much admire those heroes who conquer physical pain with their invictus will. They walked out from brokenness, confusion, and helplessness with love and help from doctors, families and Fisher House. This is the light of hope achieved by heroic spirit and love. This light will make lots of warriors outside the games gain the confidence of victory on their foggy way to recovery. This will bring more hopes to their families. This will power them up to make their children’s smile sunnier.
Friends and students, although you might not know anyone from this group, when you are aware that President Obama donated part of his Noble Peace Price to Fisher House, we would all know peace is flower --- these devotion’s dedication and brokenness support it and dyed this very fragile and hard-won flower red. The devotion made by wounded soldiers and their families achieved peace. They are like families around you, caring and helping these groups is like caring your family, friends and neighbors.
Friends and students, you may call caring them as charity, but when you think of your brothers and sisters, your friends, and people you are familiar with went to the front line to protect the peace and happiness of family without hesitation. Now, when you can feel the same feeling by being there with them, the meaning of it is not just charity. When everyone can devote a very small amount of care, the positive energy that corresponds with people’s values can be accumulated and can pass the warm power to this world.
Friends and students, come on, join 1MILE4LOVE, walk into Fisher House, let more people around you know Fisher House’s story.
Walk 1 mile for love, it is not far from your heart, not far from your home, care for those honorable warriors and brothers and sisters together with Fisher House.
